Chapter 1

Twinleaf Town was normally a quiet town. Nothing much happened at Trainer/Breeder Elisa’s ranch at all. Certain events like a Pokemon’s birth or a holiday was the only big thing that came around the ranch. Her Lucario, Vincent, was normally had a happy-go-lucky attitude, but not today for some odd reason.

Elisa conversed it to Nurse Joy at the nearest Pokemon Center. “Yeah, he’s been looking depressed since four nights ago. I think it’s because of something in his past.” She nodded. “Okay, I’ll bring him in on Friday, Nurse Joy.” She casually hung up the phone and looked over at her Lucario. “This really isn’t like him. I hope he’s okay.”

Vincent’s ears twitched slightly. Sure he looked depressed, but he didn’t know why. He rose his head looking out the window. It’d be cloudy for days. So it must’ve been the whether. Or maybe something in his food. He had to figure out why he was feeling strangely depressed. He got up and headed to the ranch. He ran towards the barn house to see Sheldon looking after Morrigan, Lucario Jr., Scratch, and Sebelius.

Sheldon turned his head and smiled. “Hey there. It’s been days since anyone’s seen ya, Vince.”

Vincent chuckled a bit in response. “Yeah, I guess so.” He sat beside the timid Lucario whom he saw as his father figure for the past moments in his life whenever he needed him. “Um, Sheldon...can I ask you something?”

Sheldon nodded. “Sure, anything you wanna know, Vincent.”

“Where did I come from?”

Sheldon’s eyes widened. He turned to Vincent and chuckled a tiny bit. “Uhm. Well, Vincent. If you wanna talk about the Pidoves and the Combees, than I can tell you. When a mommy Pokemon and daddy Pokemon love each other very much and get married, they head over to Chansey, and they give them an egg which contains a baby Pokemon. Don’t ask me where the egg comes from.” Vincent rose a paw, silencing Sheldon.

He shook his head. “That’s not what I meant, Sheldon.” He slowly put his paw down.

Sheldon sighed. “I know, you want me to tell you about your real parents. Right?”

Vincent nodded.

Sheldon took a breath. “Well, I think it’s time you knew.” Sheldon noticed Matthew entering the barn house, overhearing their conversation. “I heard most of what you both had said. Elizabeth and I are one of the only ones who know where Vincent really came from.”

Sheldon nodded. “I was going to tell him, but I think you should start from the beginning, Matty.”

Matthew glared at Sheldon. “For the final time, Sheldon. My name is Matthew. Not “Matt”, not “Matty”. Matthew!”

Sheldon chuckled nervously, nodding in response that he understood Matthew.

Matthew turned to Vincent. “Vincent, you came from another ranch. One that used a now legal method for breeding. Lucario at the time, were rare and still very popular to this day. The one your egg was, was breed at an illegal ranch that breed a Lucario with a Ditto.”

Vincent’s eyes widened. “I’m part of a crime?!?” Sheldon held Vincent in his arms. “No, it’s legal now, the law was past before you were born.”

Matthew nodded. “But, sadly, most of the eggs had to be recalled before they were hatched. I don’t know what happened to them nor do any of us want to. We don’t know who your real parents are Vincent, but I’m sure they loved you and wanted to keep you, but they couldn’t.”

Vincent shook his head. “They didn’t want to keep me.” Sheldon snapped. “I don’t want you saying stuff like that, Vincent! I’m sure if I met them, they would’ve said they wanted to keep you but had to give you up for personal reasons.”

Matthew nodded. “It was also obvious that you were up for adoption as well. You’re parents had no there choice but to give you up.”

“And when I first moved to Twinleaf Town with the others on Caitlin’s team. And when I first met you and offered to visit everyday to treat you like a son, Matthew told me about your origin.” Sheldon added.

Vincent tried to take it all in as a positive matter, but he due to how depressed he’s been feeling, he had to take it as a negative matter. Tears began to swell in his eyes. “S-so...you mean my parents are probably dead or something?”

“Child…” Matthew placed a wing on Vincent’s shoulder. “We don’t know if they’re alive or not. We’re sorry, Vincent. Be thankful you’re alive at the very least. If you would’ve been taken away, just think, Sheldon wouldn’t know how to take care of his children to this day.”

Sheldon nodded in agreement. “Matthew’s right, Vincent. You were one of the main reasons why I wanted to have kids and to be the best father I can be to this day.”

Vincent still took all of this as a negative. “But, my parents…” Matthew hushed Vincent putting a wing on his muzzle. “Don’t dwell on it, Vincent. Focus on the positives and the future.” Vincent sighed. “I...I’ll try, Matthew.”

Sheldon smiled. “It’s not healthy for you to dwell on stuff like this, Vince. I wanna see you back to the jolly you, okay?” Vincent nodded at Sheldon’s request.

“Come back with my necklace you little diamond-eyed-robbing-yellowbellied-theft!!!” A female Lucario yelled at a Sableye wanting her prized necklace back.

“No way! Who’s gonna stop me? Your pyscho of a boyfriend?!”

The Lucario grabbed the Sableye by the neck. “Say that about Jeffery again and I’ll have your eyes sold as rubies!”

She jerked the necklace away from the Sableye. Dropping him to the ground. “You’re lucky that I didn’t cause any harm to you, Danny.” She scold putting the necklace around her neck.

Danny coughed heavily. “What is your problem, Caitlin?! It was just a joke!”

The female Lucario sighed. “You wouldn’t understand anyways, Danny.” She scoffed walking towards the barn house, seeing Jeff and Napoleon from afar. Walking up to them making sure they weren’t in a scuffle.

Danny got up and dusted himself off. “Crazy brat.” He uttered to himself jumping upon a tree branch.

Caitlin rolled her eyes at Danny’s immature comment and paid more attention to Jeff and Napoleon. “Hey, guys. Have you seen Vincent lately? I haven’t seen him in days.”

“Who’s Vincent?” Jeff asked.

Napoleon shrugged. “I haven’t seen him either. We’re all pretty worried about him.”

“Who is Vincent?!” Jeff asked demanding an answer.

“Our friend you stupid hideous killer.” Napoleon spat, answering Jeff’s question in annoyance. “What’d you say about me you surfer-punk?!” Jeff growled.

Caitlin broke them apart. “Boys, not today. I had enough out of what happened to me earlier today and I don’t need this.” They both stopped and sighed.

Something then caught Napoleon's eye. “There’s Vincent.”

Caitlin spun around seeing Vincent. But something was off about him. “Vincent, you okay? You look kinda down. Is there something wrong that I should know about?”

Vincent shook his head and faked a smile. “No, I-I’m fine, Caitlin. You have a boyfriend to worry about, not me.”

Caitlin sighed. “Vincent, I know Jeff is fine, and I know you’re not. Just talk to me and I--”

Vincent snapped and nearly pushed Caitlin to the ground. “I said I’m fine!”

Jeff grabbed Caitlin before her butt hit the ground. “What is your problem?! You could’ve killed her!”

Caitlin lightly shoved Jeff away. “Jeff, I’m okay.”

She then turned to Vincent who started off running. “Vincent! Wait!”

Jeff stopped her in her tracks. “Let him be for now. If he tries anything funny...I’ll make him a house call.” He chuckled deeply in his throat.

Caitlin glared at him. “Jeff, what did I tell you about the “kill-sprees?” you always have all-night/every night?”

Jeff pouted. “To cut back…” He groaned.

Vincent kept running until he tripped over a rock and fell on his knees, possibly skinning one of them and possibly his arm. He clinched his teeth, trying to ignore the pain. He didn’t bother getting up. He just laid there, hoping something to happen, he didn’t care if it was a negative or positive, he wanted it to be something.

“You okay, kid?” A raspy voice asked, kneeling down at Vincent. He didn’t know who it was nor did he care.

“Physically; kinda. Emotionally; no. But I don’t wanna talk about it.”

He then meet eyes with another Lucario, wearing a fedora and a trench coat.

The Lucario helped Vincent off the ground and dusted him off. “I understand, kid. By the way, do you know of a trainer by the name of Elisa?”

Vincent slowly nodded.

“I see. You’re her Lucario?”

Vincent nodded again.

The Lucario’s eyes widened, he seemed completely speechless. Silence filled the atmosphere for what seemed like forever. The Lucario then suddenly hugged Vincent. “I finally found you, bro! Mom and dad are gonna be so happy!”

Vincent’s eyes widened. “Mom...and dad?...”

The Lucario nodded. “Lemme explain; Three years after my sister, Abigail and I were born. Mom and dad told us about one egg they were determined to keep, but it was placed for adoption to another trainer. Our trainer/breeder, Ryan, wanted to get rid of some of the Riolu eggs that mom and dad had ‘cause of some old law that was shut down after some time when they realized it was okay to breed ditto with other Pokemon. After the law was passed, all the eggs were put up for adoption. Including yours. But mom and dad wanted to keep you so badly.”

Vincent remained speechless. His mind swam through the thoughts of his parents still wanting to keep him after all these years.

“Dude, I’m your brother, Artemis. I wanna take you back to your REAL home back in Floaroma Town.”

Vincent staired at Artemis. “I...I can’t…”

Artemis chuckled a bit. “Why not? You scared?”

Vincent shook his head. “I...I have someone...that I love deeply. An Infernape named--”

“Woah!” Artemis interrupted. “An Infernape?...Bro, you can’t be in love with a monkey Pokemon. You’re better off with a canine Pokemon like a Ninetails or another Lucario. Oh! Or even a--”

Vincent slammed a paw on Artemis’s muzzle. “Artemis! I can love who I wanna love and I love Veruka. And I know she loves me somehow! She doesn’t show it, but I know she does love me somehow!”

Artemis shrugged and sighed. “Whatever tickles your Tangrowth.” He placed a paw on Vincent’s shoulder. “But that’s not important right now. Your family and I want you to come back home, Vincent. Mom and dad have missed you for days. So much they...ran away from their trainer...he was a bit abusive after my egg was laid.”

Vincent began to get more and more confused. “Are you sure you’re not lying?” Artemis nodded. “I’m sure.”

Vincent staired at his feet. “B-but what about my friends?...What am I gonna tell ‘em?”

Artemis smiled. “I’m glad you asked. You just say you’re going on a little trip then don’t come back home at all. After a while, I’ll get a Starly I know to send a letter saying that you were in a horrible accident.” Vincent gasped. “But...but…”

“No, “buts”. The only butt that needs to be said is yours. ‘Cause your butt is coming home with me.” Artemis growled a bit. “It’s better this way. No one’s gonna miss you that much anyways.”

Vincent started to think this over for a short while. Veruka had be harsh to him lately; only time she was mad at him was that time when he tried to surprise her with a Valentine’s Day gift with a bucket of Luvdiscs. But he did had it coming with a punch in the face. And he had been depressed for a while. And Sheldon had been very busy with his own family lately and hardly had time to spend with Vincent. Rupert did scold Vincent only once when he drank his pokecola unknowing that it was the last can. Elizabeth had been rough with him since Veruka started being harsh to him. Napoleon, Enda, Danny and even Merry had be bullying him a little bit lately for a reason he can’t even remember.

Cotton, Saria, Caitlin, and Ross were the only cared and wanted to help him (other than Caitlin being a bit obsessed and a little busy with Jeff lately), but he didn’t wanna a burden to any of them. Maybe seeing his parents would shed some light again. Maybe it’d help him get back to his jolly old self again. He’d be happy again when he finally sees his parents for one last time.

He took a breath and nodded at Artemis. “Okay, I’ll do it, bro.” Artemis smiled. “Atta boy!”

***

Later that night, during dinner time. Everyone sat at the campfire like normal. Vincent grabbed his dinner bowl and saw Caitlin, sitting alone, next to Cotton. He wanted to sit with her instead of Veruka this time.

“Hey, Cait. Mind if I sit next to you?” Vincent asked in a bit of a happier tone.

Caitlin smiled. “Sure. You seem happier now, Vincent.”

Vincent chuckled as he sat next to the female Lucario. “Yeah, and I think that Veruka still need some space from me after that chestplate incident.”

Caitlin nodded. “True. You know how much of a temper she can have sometimes.”

Vincent nodded. “Um, Caitlin, can you tell everyone something for me, please?”

Caitlin looked at Vincent rather confused and worried. “Vincent...you aren’t going to...please tell me you aren’t.”

Vincent shook his head. “Nothing like that. Just tell everyone that I’m going to go on a trip to Kalos for a little while.”

Caitlin’s emotion swapped to confused in an instant. “Why are you going to the Kalos region on your own?”

Vincent’s ears shot up a bit. “Because...I have a private mission I received from a Zoroark.”

Caitlin nodded. “I see.”

“So yeah, it’s that private and that important.” Vincent lied.

Caitlin shrugged. “You’re gonna be okay, right?”

Vincent nodded. I had no idea I was that good of a liar. Either that or Caitlin’s that gullible.

“Do you need any help packing up?” She asked. Vincent shook his head. “I’ll be fine, Cait. But thanks.”

Caitlin smiled. “Okay. I hope you have a safe trip ahead of you, Vincent.”

Vincent smiled, he handed Caitlin a bread roll. “Want one?”

Caitlin smiled and took the roll and broke it in half, giving the larger half to Vincent. “Thanks, Vince.”

***
Later that night, Vincent packed up a few items, such as chocolate chip cookies, a map, and a picture of him, Rupert, and Veruka all playing on the old tire swing when they were young. He staired at the picture for a long while.

He finally sighed “I guess some things don’t last forever.” With a heavy broken heart, he placed the picture in his little bag.

“Vincent. What are you doing?”

Vincent spun around to only see a little Zorua. It was only Morrigan. “‘Morrigan. What are you doing up this late?”

Morrigan hopped up on the nightstand. “I was just gonna get some water then I found you packing up everything. Are you going somewhere?”

Vincent nodded. “Caitlin’ll tell you all in the morning.” Morrigan stopped Vincent for a moment. “Why can’t you tell us, Vincent?”

“Because I have to be there in the morning.” Vincent couldn’t think of anything else better to say but that. “I’ll be back whenever I can, I promise.” He knelt down at Morrigan and hugged her. “No matter what, I’ll always be here for you as a brother and an uncle.”

Morrigan hugged back. After a few minutes passed, the two released their grip. Vincent smiled and headed off into the distance. Morrigan sighed, seeing Vincent disappear into the horizon. “We’re going to miss you, Vincent…”
